Benefits of Ginkgo Biloba and Green Tea When Combined Together

Gingko biloba and green tea have similar, but different health benefits. Like all plants, they contain unique antioxidants that protect the plant from disease, toxins and UV damage. In the human body, these antioxidants have similar activity.

There are many different molecules in the cells of the human body. They all perform various roles to nourish the cell or keep it healthy in other ways. Some of the molecules transmit messages from the nerves and the brain back to the cells. All of this happens very quickly, without us being aware of it.

Free radicals are molecules that perform a variety of functions within the human body, one of which is to kill intracellular bacteria. Balancing molecules, known as antioxidants, prevent the radical molecules from becoming overactive and damaging the cellular membrane. If enough antioxidants are not present, radicals contribute to DNA degeneration, which contributes to cellular aging and eventually the death of the cell.

It is the antioxidant content of gingko biloba and green tea that contributes to the health benefits, along with the other phytochemicals, which is just a fancy way of saying plant compounds, which are found in them. Ginkgoes are some of the oldest trees known to man. Some of the specimens found in temples in China are believed to be over 1500 years old. The plant is a living fossil that has been growing on this planet for over 250 million years.

Extracts from ginkgo have pharmaceutical activity and have been used to treat a variety of conditions including depression, premenstrual syndrome, macular degeneration, hearing loss and tinnitus. Double blind testing has shown that the extracts increase the oxygen content in the brain, which in turn increases cognitive performance, improving memory and reducing age-related mental decline.

Gingko biloba and green tea are combined in a number of supplements to improve concentration and memory, because green tea extracts also have proven benefits in this area. The best supplements contain a variety of different antioxidants, simply because our bodies can use them. If you want to live a longer healthier life, most natural healthcare experts recommend that you focus on achieving optimal nutrition. Gingko seeds are a traditional Chinese food and are esteemed throughout Asia.

Green teas are, as you may know, popular beverages throughout Asia. They are increasing in popularity throughout the world, primarily because of the purported health benefits. Most of us feel that a supplement containing gingko biloba and green tea extracts is more beneficial than trying to eat the seeds and drink the beverages every day. Unlike the plants, which have varying amounts of phytochemicals, the extracts are standardized. So, you get the right dosage every day. Free radical damage and decreased blood flow to the brain, as well as plaque build-up, are believed to be the primary causes of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases. Gingko biloba and green tea extracts may reduce our risk of those diseases, allowing us to think clearly for the rest of our, hopefully, long lives.
